In a recent archery competition organized for women in District Raipur by the Sports Authority of India and State Archery Association, the positive impact of sports academies on the performance of athletes was evident. Tuleshwari Khusro of Bilaspur, who received training from the Archery Training Sub Center Shivtarai, won the gold medal by scoring 656 points in the Indian round. Ku. Divya Yadav from the State Sports Training Center (Khelo India State Center of Excellence) secured the third position by scoring 647 marks.
The Sports and Youth Welfare Department officials informed that the state government has been promoting sports by establishing sports academies in the region, where players receive top-notch training with high-quality facilities. In less than a year, the results of the Sports Academy are clearly visible. The B.R. Yadav State Sports Training Center has been approved as a Khelo India State Center of Excellence, where hockey, archery, and athletic academies were started in June and November 2022. Players are provided free residential arrangements and training by nationally renowned coaches, and as a result, players have achieved success at the national level and qualified for international competitions.
Athletes from the Archery Training Sub Center Shivtarai in village Shivtarai, district Bilaspur have also shown great potential. Within one year of the training sub-center’s inception, players have earned medals at the national level. Kuber Singh Jagat won a gold medal in the 4th Khelo India East Zone Archery Championship in Kolkata in the Indian round, while Vikas Kumar and Ajay Kumar won silver medals in the 42nd NTPC Junior National Archery Championship in Goa in the Indian round. Sandeep Kumar, Hemant, Devendra Kumar of Training Sub Center, Tuleshwari, Sulochana, Akash Raj, and others have represented the academy at the national level.
The Sports and Youth Welfare Department’s continuous efforts to promote sports in the state are bearing fruit, as players are performing well at various competitions.
