In a proactive operation carried out in the capital city of Raipur, the police apprehended an individual in possession of Rs 34,67,000 in cash. The operation, aimed at ensuring security and law and order in light of the upcoming assembly elections, was conducted in strict adherence to the model code of conduct and under the directives of Inspector General of Police Range District Raipur, R.L. Dangi, and Senior Superintendent of Police, Prashant Aggarwal.
Under the leadership of police gazetted officers, and with the participation of station in-charges, the Raipur Police established fixed checking points in all police station areas within the district. Additionally, they conducted foot patrolling and intensive checking to deter illegal transportation of liquor and other election-related materials. Vigilance over suspicious individuals was also a part of the comprehensive operation.
As part of this ongoing operation, a joint team from the Nemichand Gali Pass Anti-Crime and Cyber Unit, located at Telghani Naka under the Azad Chowk police station, and the Azad Chowk police station, were conducting foot patrolling and checking of two-wheelers and four-wheelers on October 21, 2023. During the operation, the team stopped an individual who was traveling in a Jupiter vehicle bearing the registration number CG/04/LF/9599. The individual was carrying a bag, and upon inspection, the bag was found to contain a significant amount of cash.
The person, identified as Hemant Meghani and a resident of Lakhenagar Old Basti, Raipur, could not provide valid documents regarding the cash amount, despite repeated inquiries from the team. Consequently, the cash amount of Rs 34,67,000 was registered under Section 102 J.F. and seized at the Azad Chowk police station. The information regarding the seizure has been relayed to the Income Tax Department for further scrutiny and investigation.
This operation underscores the commitment of the Raipur Police to maintain law and order during the upcoming assembly elections and to prevent any illegal activities that could disrupt the electoral process.
