The film Paathaan has been making headlines since its release on January 25, with its star-studded cast and blockbuster box office collections. The film was released globally in 8,000 screens, with an estimated budget of Rs 250 crore, and was released in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu formats. According to Nitin Menon of NV Capital, Paathaan has done a net business of Rs 280 crore in India and an estimated net business of Rs 150 crore in overseas markets. In total, the film has earned Rs 430 crore net.
It’s important to note the difference between net and gross box office collections. Net collections are the collections excluding taxes, while taxes such as GST in India and other taxes in international markets make up the gross collections. For overseas business, only gross box office collections are considered. In India, gross collections stand at Rs 368 crore, while overseas gross collections are estimated to be around $25 million (Rs 204 crore approximately).
According to producer and film business expert Girish Johar, Paathaan’s overall business currently ranges between Rs 500-530 crore gross box office worldwide. The film has collected more than Rs 500 crore in five days, and every day, it did almost Rs 100 crore business globally. Johar noted that the film continues to show strong potential post weekend and that early trends for Monday (January 30) are strong.
Menon stated that Paathaan is the biggest Hindi movie in India in terms of collections, with the top Hindi movies being Baahubali 2: The Conclusion at Rs 500 crore (net) business from the Hindi version, KGF 2 at Rs 430 crs (Hindi), and Dangal at Rs 385 crore. The film has the possibility of breaking KGF 2’s Hindi collection record, and its success will be determined by how its weekday collections stand.
