A video capturing a recent incident at Ghaziabad’s ABES College has gone viral on social media, sparking a nationwide debate on the appropriateness of slogans at educational institutions. The video reveals an incident where a professor asked a student to leave the stage after he chanted ‘Jai Shree Ram’ during a cultural event.
The incident unfolded as a few students in the audience began chanting ‘Jai Shree Ram.’ In response, a student who was on the stage took the microphone and echoed the slogan, leading to an enthusiastic chant echoing throughout the hall.
However, the situation took an unexpected turn when a professor addressed the student on stage, expressing her opinion that slogans should not have been raised since it was a cultural program at the college. She instructed the student to leave the stage. Another video emerged, showing another professor explaining to the audience that such slogans were not suitable at a cultural fest, emphasizing that the event was meant for enjoyment and cultural participation.
“We are all here for a cultural event and to have a good time, so why are there slogans of ‘Jai Shree Ram’? There is no logical reason for it,” the professor stated. She stressed the importance of discipline for the success of such programs.
Following the circulation of the videos on social media, the ABES College saw a significant security deployment. Several police officers and police vans were stationed outside the college gate in response to the controversy.
The incident has ignited a larger conversation about the place of slogans and political expressions within the context of educational institutions. As the nation deliberates on the incident, it serves as a thought-provoking reflection on the intersections of culture, politics, and academia in contemporary society.
