Chhattisgarh Chief Minister, Shri Bhupesh Baghel, launched the Unemployment Allowance Scheme on April 1, 2023, to help tackle unemployment in the state. The scheme has already received 91,049 applications on the unemployment allowance portal, with 57,207 people recommended for approval after document verification. In the first 20 days of the scheme, 30,000 applicants were approved to receive the unemployment allowance of Rs. 2,500 per month, transferred directly to their bank accounts through DBT.
The objective of the scheme is to provide financial assistance to unemployed youth and make them employable by offering skill training. The unemployment allowance portal is open 24/7, and applicants can apply at their convenience without a set last date or time for opening and closing.
The eligibility criteria for the scheme require applicants to be between 18 and 35 years old, a native of Chhattisgarh, and registered in any district employment and self-employment guidance center for at least two years with a Higher Secondary or above qualification. The applicant should not have any personal source of income, and the annual income of the applicant’s family from all sources should not exceed Rs. 2.5 lakh. Applicants must also have passed at least the Higher Secondary examination from a recognized board.
The Unemployment Allowance Scheme is more successful than the previous unemployment allowance scheme operated in 2015, where a maximum of 22,000 applicants were approved. The current scheme has already surpassed that number in the first 20 days of its launch. On the day of the launch, 4,269 registrations were received on the portal, indicating the enthusiasm among the youth to take advantage of this government initiative.
Applicants are finding it easy to apply through the portal and are uploading all necessary documents without any inconvenience. The unemployment allowance approval order was handed out to beneficiaries by the Chief Minister himself during the launch program, and they expressed their happiness at the scheme’s immediate approval of their applications.
