In Gharghoda, the police have successfully arrested the absconding accused, Madan Chauhan, a 22-year-old resident of Raikera village in the Gharghoda police station area. He was arrested in connection with an attempted murder and molestation case and subsequently sent to judicial remand. The case involved an attempt to murder a young man from Konpara by crushing him with a Maruti car, driven by Madan’s elder brother, Madhusudan Chauhan, following an ongoing feud.
The incident that led to the case unfolded when the injured young man’s wife filed a report at Gharghoda police station on September 9. She reported that several days before the incident, her husband had filed a molestation complaint against Madhusudan Chauhan, Madan Chauhan, and their associates at the police station. This had apparently created resentment among the accused. On the fateful day of September 9, 2023, the husband and wife were at their shop as usual when Madhusudan Chauhan and Madan Chauhan arrived in a Maruti car with registration number CG 13 AP 6925. The brothers confronted them, hurled abuses, threatened to file a police report, and then departed. Later that afternoon, as the husband was returning home on his scooter for dinner, Madhusudan Chauhan and Madan Chauhan ambushed him from behind with the clear intention of killing him. They drove their Maruti car, bearing the same number CG 13 AP 6925, and collided with the husband riding the scooter on Raikera Main Road near Panjhar Pulia. As a result of the collision, the victim, along with his scooter, fell to the ground, sustaining severe head and body injuries. The applicant, who witnessed the incident, alleged that Madhusudan Chauhan was driving the Maruti car.
The injured husband was subsequently admitted to Raigarh Hospital by his family members. In response to the victim’s application, both Madhusudan Chauhan and Madan Chauhan were booked under relevant sections of the law, including attempted murder. Gharghoda police, led by Station In-charge Inspector Sharad Chandra, initiated a prompt investigation, leading to the arrest of Madhusudan Chauhan on September 10. The police also seized the damaged Maruti car used in the incident. While Madan Chauhan remained at large, Gharghoda police launched an active search operation and urged informers to provide immediate information if they spotted him in the area.
In a significant development, the police station in-charge received information from an informer suggesting that Madan Chauhan had been seen in Raikera. Acting swiftly, the police station staff was dispatched to locate the accused. They successfully apprehended Madan Chauhan, who is 28 years old and the son of Ishwar Chauhan, residing in Raikera. After taking him into custody, the police conducted an interrogation and seized a bamboo stick as evidence based on the accused’s statement. Madan Chauhan was arrested by Gharghoda police in connection with both the attempted murder and molestation cases, along with rioting charges. He has since been sent to judicial remand.
