Chief Minister Shri Bhupesh Baghel underscored the critical role of physiotherapy in addressing the physical effects that individuals experienced in the aftermath of the challenging phase of the COVID-19 pandemic. He emphasized the increasing significance of physiotherapy in various cases, including alleviating physical pain, assisting patients with paralysis, and addressing neurosis. The Chief Minister made these remarks during his address at the inaugural ‘Physiocon 2023’ held at the Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Medical Auditorium in the capital city of Raipur.
The event, organized under the auspices of The Indian Association of Physiotherapists, provided a platform for fruitful discussions among physiotherapists and subject experts from across the state. During the program, Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel and Deputy Chief Minister T.S. Singhdev were honored with mementos.
Chief Minister Mr. Baghel acknowledged that as material comforts and transportation means have increased over time, physical activity levels among humans have decreased, resulting in an increase in physical health issues. He emphasized that our bodies are designed not just for rest but also for hard work. He also highlighted the growing importance of physiotherapy in the field of sports, where it plays a significant role in enhancing athletes’ skills.
Mr. Baghel noted that physiotherapy is commonly recommended in hospitals for individuals with fractures or pain problems. He stressed the importance of undergoing physiotherapy under the supervision of trained physiotherapists. Additionally, he emphasized the role of regular exercise and yoga in maintaining overall health, highlighting the significance of physical movement within the body.
The Chief Minister pointed out that modern lifestyles involve less physical activity and more mental exertion, which has amplified the importance of physiotherapists in maintaining health and well-being. He highlighted the rapid expansion of healthcare facilities in the state over the past five years, attributing these achievements to the state government’s schemes and commitment. Mr. Baghel also commended physiotherapists for their invaluable contributions during the challenging period of the COVID-19 pandemic and pledged to expedite the formation of the Physiotherapy Council, as requested by the association.
Deputy Chief Minister Shri T.S. Singhdev addressed the program and stressed the critical role of physiotherapy in the lives of both the general public and athletes. He noted that physiotherapy has become an integral part of sports and is indispensable for athletes seeking to enhance their performance. Deputy Chief Minister Shri Singhdev also highlighted the contribution of physiotherapy in former Chief Minister Shri Ajit Jogi’s recovery following an accident, sharing his personal experiences related to physiotherapy. He emphasized the need to raise awareness about the features and importance of physiotherapy among the public.
Dr. Sanjeev Jha, the National President of the Indian Association of Physiotherapists, addressed the program. The event was attended by Dr. Prashant Chakraborty, the Chhattisgarh branch president of the Indian Association of Physiotherapists, as well as physiotherapists Dr. Faizan, Dr. Ali Irani, Dr. Joji John, Dr. Ruchi Wasnik, Dr. Avinash Kushwaha, and numerous physiotherapists from across the state.
