Under the dynamic leadership of Chief Secretary Shri Amitabh Jain, Chhattisgarh conducted a state-level review meeting at Mantralaya Mahanadi Bhawan to address the pressing issue of accidents caused by animals straying onto the roads across the state. The meeting aimed to assess the ongoing intensive campaign designed to mitigate these incidents effectively.
During the meeting, Chief Secretary Amitabh Jain sought detailed updates on the concerted efforts being taken at the district level to deter animals from venturing onto roads. He also scrutinized the measures in place to ensure the safety of these animals by relocating them from roads to designated areas like Gauthans (cow shelters), Kanji houses, and cow sheds.
The Chief Secretary probed into the progress made in addressing complaints received from various sources regarding animals on the roads. He instructed officials to keep records of the number of animals removed from roadways and to provide counsel to cattle owners residing in areas frequently reporting such incidents. Valuable input from different levels was emphasized to develop robust solutions.
Additionally, Chief Secretary Jain urged law enforcement officers to take appropriate actions in response to road accidents involving animals and conduct in-depth analyses of such incidents. The meeting delved into the status of cow shelters and the development of new ones. Progress reports on dry areas and dry access roads within Gauthans, animal welfare, penalties imposed on animal owners, and the resolution of complaints were also examined thoroughly.
Efforts to ensure the availability of sufficient cow-catching vehicles in both rural and urban areas were highlighted, and progress in addressing road-related animal complaints was scrutinized on a district-by-district basis.
