A contentious situation has arisen in Lok Sabha following derogatory remarks made by BJP MP Ramesh Bidhuri towards BSP MP Danish Ali during a discussion on Chandrayaan-3’s success. The incident has sparked controversy, with the opposition calling for strict action against Bidhuri for his offensive comments.
While Defence Minister Rajnath Singh expressed regret over Bidhuri’s remarks and the BJP issued a show-cause notice to him, opposition parties have demanded his suspension, characterizing his comments as “vile and communal.”
Amid this controversy, Danish Ali claimed that a narrative was being created to incite violence against him outside the House. He termed the allegations that he instigated Bidhuri baseless and called for an investigation into these claims.
Addressing the media, Ali emphasized, “My verbal lynching was done inside the House, and now this is a narrative to get me lynched outside the House.” He urged Speaker Om Birla to look into the allegations against him and suggested that these baseless claims might warrant a breach of privilege case against those making them.
The situation escalated when BJP MPs Nishikant Dubey, Ravi Kishan Shukla, and Harnath Singh Yadav wrote to Speaker Om Birla, questioning Danish Ali’s conduct within the House and calling for an inquiry into it. Dubey alleged that Ali made “highly objectionable and blasphemous” remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, provoking Bidhuri.
While condemning Bidhuri’s comments, Dubey contended that Ali had previously engaged in unparliamentary behavior. Shukla, in his letter, emphasized that words used against Ali were unacceptable but raised questions about the circumstances that led to such language being used within the House.
Ali, on the other hand, maintained that he was attempting to protect the Prime Minister’s dignity and requested that derogatory words used about Modi be expunged from the House’s records. He reiterated his claim that he did not incite Bidhuri’s offensive remarks.
The controversy has elicited strong reactions from opposition parties, with many demanding Bidhuri’s suspension and criticizing the BJP for defending him. They argue that the sanctity and honor of Parliament must be upheld, and those who insult it should face consequences.
This situation has highlighted divisions and tensions within the Lok Sabha, with opposition members expressing concerns over the handling of derogatory remarks and seeking a uniform approach to maintaining parliamentary decorum.
