Chhattisgarh Chief Minister, Bhupesh Baghel, officially filed his nomination from the traditional Patan seat in Durg district for the upcoming assembly polls. He expressed his confidence in the Congress’s ability to retain power in the state.
Accompanied by Chhattisgarh assembly speaker Charan Das Mahant and State Home Minister Tamradhwaj Sahu, Chief Minister Baghel filed his nomination papers at the Durg collectorate. Prior to this, he shared pictures on social media of his wife applying a traditional ’tilak’ on his forehead at their Bhilai residence.
In a social media post, Baghel reflected on the significance of the day and his journey as a candidate. He expressed gratitude for the love and support he receives from the people and pledged his unwavering dedication to serving the people of Chhattisgarh.
Patan, a rural constituency, shares its border with the state capital, Raipur. Bhupesh Baghel has been elected from this seat five times in the past, in the years 1993, 1998, 2003, 2013, and 2018. In the 2008 assembly polls, he faced a defeat against his nephew, BJP’s Vijay Baghel. Vijay Baghel, who currently serves as the Lok Sabha member from Durg, is the opposition BJP’s candidate for this assembly seat. Both the Chief Minister and the BJP candidate belong to the Kurmi community, an influential OBC group in Chhattisgarh with a significant presence in the constituency.
