Pt. Ravi Shankar University, known for its frequent exam result controversies, has encountered another issue. In the recent PhD entrance exams, not a single student passed in seven departments out of 714 participants.
The PhD entrance examination, administered by Pt. Ravi Shankar Shukla University, saw a disappointing outcome, with no successful candidates in seven subjects: Mathematics, Biotechnology, Botany, Defense Studies, Geography, Management, and Physical Education. Additionally, several other subjects had only one or two students passing.
Out of the 714 students who took the examination, only 140 managed to pass. These successful candidates will receive certificates from the university.
The exam took place in August, covering 35 subjects, with questions worth 100 marks. To pass, general category students needed to secure at least 50 percent marks, while reserved category students required a minimum of 45 percent. The allocation of PhD seats is based on the number of professors in each department, with each professor able to guide up to eight students.
Students who have qualified for the National Eligibility Test (NET) or State Eligibility Test (SET) in departments where no students passed the entrance examination will be directly admitted to the PhD program. This special admission provision ensures that seats do not remain vacant even when no candidates pass the entrance exam.
Pt. Ravi Shankar University has faced scrutiny and criticism in recent times due to challenges with exam results, particularly in the B.Com first-year examination earlier this year when 80 percent of students failed.
