The Chhattisgarh government has taken a step towards reducing road accidents by cracking down on vehicles without fitness, tax, and documents. In view of the increasing death toll in road accidents, CM Bhupesh Baghel has given instructions to start an e-detection system on all National Highways of the state. The e-detection system will automatically challan vehicles without fitness and tax when they pass through the toll gates.
According to the Transport Department, an e-detection portal has been developed in collaboration with NIC Orissa to detect such vehicles plying on National Highways in Chhattisgarh. The portal aims to collect data of vehicles passing through various toll points on National Highways. Initially, toll gates on NH have been linked to the e-detection portal, and later data will also be collected from mining and industrial areas with the help of ANPR cameras.
The information of vehicles will be collected from the data received through FASTag, and the photographs of vehicles passing through the toll gates will be taken. The challan will be sent to the vehicle owners through SMS. The vehicles will remain banned in all RTOs until the challan is paid. Transport Commissioner Deepanshu Kabra has appealed to vehicle owners to keep their documents up-to-date to avoid fines of fitness, tax, insurance, and PUC.
The government has taken a policy decision to implement e-detection after the recommendation of SCCORS. Recently, Sanjay Mittal, Secretary, Supreme Court Committee, visited some districts and reviewed the corrective measures initiated to reduce road accidents in the state. He had given instructions to curb the vehicles running without fitness and insurance.
This step by the Chhattisgarh government will help in curbing the number of road accidents caused by vehicles without proper documents and fitness. It will also help in bringing revenue to the government by collecting fines from vehicle owners who violate the law.
