A significant event marked the 129th birth anniversary of the revered Saint Vinoba Bhave as a discussion on land rights and land donation was convened in partnership with Vinoba Seva Sansthan. The event, held at Jaydev Bhawan in Bhubaneswar, witnessed the participation of Chhattisgarh Governor Shri Vishwabhushan Harichandan as the esteemed chief guest.
In his inaugural address, Governor Shri Vishwabhushan Harichandan paid homage to Acharya Vinoba Bhave, an exceptional revolutionary and the guiding force behind the Bhoodan movement. The Governor hailed Acharya Vinoba Bhave’s unparalleled patriotism, unwavering determination, and visionary independent thinking. He emphasized that Acharya Bhave’s lifelong dedication was centered on uplifting the marginalized and homeless populations. Inspired by Mahatma Gandhi, he ardently pursued national service as a means to liberate the nation from the shackles of colonial rule.
Acharya Vinoba Bhave’s legacy is distinguished by his selfless endeavors to provide land and sustenance to thousands of landless individuals across India through the Bhoodan (land donation) movement. Embarking on foot journeys throughout the nation, he championed the cause of poverty eradication by securing millions of acres of donated irrigated land for the landless. His extraordinary actions earned him the reverence of his compatriots, who view him as a venerated revolutionary.
Governor Shri Harichandan underscored that true revolution equates to public enlightenment. He invoked the spirit of Vinoba Bhave, urging youth and citizens to advocate for the rights of the impoverished and marginalized in society. The Governor asserted that fostering awareness and empathy for the plight of the underprivileged, as exemplified by Vinoba’s ideals, holds the key to realizing his vision. On this occasion, Governor Shri Harichandan affirmed that without visionary individuals like Vinoba, such monumental achievements would remain unattainable.
The event also witnessed the participation of eminent figures, including former Odisha Minister and MLA Prafulla Samal, MLA Mohammad Mokim, former Union Minister Brajkishore Tripathi, and other esteemed guests, as they engaged in a thought-provoking dialogue on land rights and the enduring legacy of Saint Vinoba Bhave. This gathering served as a tribute to the indomitable spirit of a true visionary who dedicated his life to the welfare of the downtrodden and the cause of land donation.
