In a momentous achievement, the rescue team accomplished a remarkable feat at the Silkyara Tunnel in Uttarkashi on its 17th day. Commencing around 7:30 pm on Tuesday night, the painstaking evacuation process unfolded, culminating in the safe retrieval of all 41 laborers by around 8:45 pm. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami warmly greeted the emerging workers, felicitating their safe exit with garlands. Engaging in extensive conversations, CM Dhami inquired about the well-being of the workers, emphasizing their health as the top priority.
The initial laborer safely extricated from the tunnel was promptly transported to the Chinyalisaur Community Health Center via an ambulance, where a dedicated ward with 41 beds has been arranged. Medical professionals are diligently assessing the health condition of the rescued workers. The atmosphere outside the tunnel was brimming with joy, and expressions of gratitude were evident as sweets were distributed among the soldiers and the assembled crowd.
Prior to this triumphant moment, CM Pushkar Singh Dhami took to Twitter to announce the significant progress in the ongoing rescue mission at the Silkyara Tunnel. The task of pipe pushing across the debris had been successfully executed, paving the way for the imminent evacuation of the laborers.
The ordeal began on Diwali, the 12th of November, when 41 laborers were trapped inside the under-construction Silkyara Tunnel. The relentless rescue operation spanned 17 days and reached its fruition on Tuesday. Throughout the endeavor, the auger machine encountered multiple malfunctions, leading to intermittent halts and subsequent repairs. Ultimately, the auger machine’s blades sustained damage, prompting the deployment of rat miners. The process of safely evacuating the workers culminated on Tuesday night, marking the successful end of the protracted rescue campaign.
