Amidst the formation of the BJP-led government in Chhattisgarh, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) gears up to initiate a no-confidence motion against Raipur Mayor Ejaz Dhebar. The move comes in response to the discontent among BJP councilors regarding alleged irregularities and unauthorized constructions under the mayor’s leadership.
The BJP councilors, expressing discontent with Mayor Ejaz Dhebar’s tenure, convened a meeting aimed at discussing the proposed no-confidence motion. Leader of the Opposition, Meenal Choubey, stressed the moral obligation for Mayor Ejaz Dhebar to step down from his position, citing the lack of a Congress majority to justify the no-confidence motion.
Presently, the Raipur Municipal Corporation, comprising 70 seats, holds 31 BJP councilors, while Congress accounts for 39 councilors. The recent expulsion of councilor Ajit Kukreja, who contested as an independent candidate, adds to the political dynamics within the corporation.
Meenal Choubey highlighted the alleged construction of illegal chowpatties in various locations, demanding the immediate resignation of Mayor Ejaz Dhebar over these purported irregularities.
The brewing discontent within the BJP camp against Mayor Ejaz Dhebar raises tension within the Raipur Municipal Corporation. The BJP gears up to launch the no-confidence motion amid the changing political landscape in Chhattisgarh.
