In response to the surge in incidents related to drunken driving, the Traffic Police in Durg has intensified its crackdown on individuals found driving under the influence of alcohol. Under the directives of Superintendent of Police, Shri Ram Gopal Garg, a proactive initiative was undertaken to address the escalating concerns of road safety due to intoxicated driving.
Over the last three days, the Traffic Police took action against a total of 22 drivers found to be under the influence of alcohol while operating vehicles. As part of their nightly routine, the traffic enforcement authorities vigilantly monitor and act against drivers consuming alcohol before driving.
To combat the prevalent issue of drunken driving, dedicated checkpoints have been established at crucial locations including Kumhari Toll Plaza, Sirsa Gate, Murga Chowk, Gada Chowk, Suryamall Chowk, Civic Center Bhilai, Pulgaon Chowk, Patel Chowk, Gurudwara Chowk, and Nehru Nagar. At these checkpoints, drivers are subjected to alcohol tests using alcometers. Upon discovering 22 instances of intoxicated driving, the vehicles were impounded, and the respective drivers were presented before the court. Subsequently, each case incurred a fine of Rs 10,000 under the Motor Vehicle Act.
Reflecting on the alarming statistics of last year, where 158 drunk drivers were penalized, this year until December 8, 245 individuals were apprehended for driving under the influence of alcohol. The intensification of these efforts stems from recognizing intoxication as a major contributor to nocturnal road accidents.
The Traffic Police in Durg remains steadfast in its commitment to curb road accidents resulting from intoxicated driving. This ongoing campaign is aimed at ensuring road safety and reducing the risks posed by individuals driving under the influence of alcohol.
