A shocking incident of harassment at K R Puram Railway Station in Bangalore has come to light. A Train Ticket Examiner (TTE), who was allegedly drunk, was caught harassing a lone female passenger. The incident took place on Train No 22863, where the TTE stationed at K R Puram was caught using foul language and harassing the female passenger.
According to the victim’s tweet and a viral video, the TTE allegedly harassed and pulled the passenger forcibly when she was unable to show the ticket on her phone quickly enough for him. Fortunately, the lady was rescued by other passengers around her who were appalled by the behavior of the allegedly drunk TTE.
The situation went from bad to worse when the TTE was heard saying, “Police Ke Baap Ko Bulao,” which roughly translates to “Call the father of the police,” and another person is heard saying, “Speak in English.” It is speculated that the TTE’s behavior could have been triggered by the recent hate speech being spread on social media, where some individuals demand that citizens of India, regardless of their state, should speak in Kannada when they enter Karnataka.
There has been a recent spike in this hate speech on Facebook and Twitter, causing verbal abuse towards others living or staying in Bangalore. Many videos have been posted online to show how there is supposed Hindi imposition by citizens of India in Karnataka.
Despite the incident being caught on camera, no action has been taken by the Ministry of Railways so far. This incident raises serious concerns about the safety of female passengers and the actions that need to be taken against such harassment.
