Sukha Duneke, a notorious criminal who had fled to Canada from India in 2017 using forged documents, is believed to have been killed in an inter-gang rivalry incident in Canada. Duneke, also known as Sukhdool Singh, was reportedly a member of the Davinder Bambiha gang from the Moga district in India. His death comes as part of an ongoing wave of violence between rival gangs, mirroring the killing of terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Surrey, Canada, on June 19, during a similar inter-gang warfare incident where Nijjar was shot multiple times.
Intelligence inputs from Canada suggest that Sukha Duneke, a fugitive with seven criminal cases registered against him in India, may have met his end in Winnipeg, Canada. It is important to note that these reports remain unconfirmed at this time.
Notably, there are at least 29 gangsters from the Punjab region and surrounding areas who have sought shelter outside India to evade law enforcement. Many of them left India using Indian passports, fake-forged travel documents, or the Nepal route in the past. Among the countries that have been providing shelter to these criminals, Canada stands out prominently. Canada has accused India of political assassination in the case of Hardeep Singh Nijjar without substantial proof.
Sukha Duneke was allegedly involved in aiding, funding, and strengthening the Davinder Bambiha gang, which operates in Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, and Rajasthan. While he was reportedly inclined toward pro-Khalistan outfits, his criminal activities mainly revolved around extortion calls and contract killings, known as ‘supari’ killings.
Duneke has been connected to orchestrating crimes in Punjab and nearby states through his associates and is listed as one of the most wanted criminals in the region. One notable incident involved his conspiracy to murder kabaddi player Sandeep Singh Nangal during a kabaddi match in Mallian village, Jalandhar, on March 14 of the previous year. More than 20 criminal cases, including murder and other serious offenses, have been registered against him in Punjab and nearby states.
