Raipur, Chhattisgarh – The Chhattisgarh High Court has issued a notice to the state’s Governor’s office, also known as the Raj Bhavan, regarding the pending reservation bill. The bill, passed unanimously by the Chhattisgarh Assembly on December 2, 2022, aims to provide reservation in government jobs and education in proportion to the population of different categories, taking the total quota in the state to 76 percent.
The reservation bill includes quotas for Scheduled Tribes (ST) at 32 percent, Other Backward Classes (OBC) at 27 percent, Scheduled Castes (SC) at 13 percent, and 4 percent for the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) in public employment and educational institutions.
Agriculture Minister Ravindra Choubey expressed his welcome of the court’s decision, saying that the people of the state have been deprived of employment and appointments due to the pending bill at the Raj Bhavan. He added that the bill was prepared and sent to the Governor’s office to ensure that the youth of the state receive adequate reservation.
The court has asked for a reply from the Raj Bhavan before February 17, and Minister Choubey expressed his hope for a quick decision in the interest of the youth. A petition was filed on behalf of the government by private sector people at the High Court in Bilaspur, seeking resolution on the pending reservation bill.
The Chhattisgarh High Court’s notice on the reservation bill has raised expectations for a decision that will benefit the state’s youth and provide equal opportunities in employment and education to all communities, including SC, ST, and OBC.
