In a proactive bid to combat the looming threat of dengue, Raipur Municipal Corporation (RMC) is set to embark on an intensive week-long campaign spanning all 70 wards. The campaign, commencing on Tuesday, underscores a dual approach: raising awareness about dengue prevention and implementing crucial preventive measures.
The decision to initiate this comprehensive campaign was the outcome of a pivotal meeting led by Mayor Aijaz Dhebar at the RMC. Key stakeholders including Commissioner Mayank Chaturvedi, Nagbhushan Rao, in-charge of the Health Department, as well as zone commissioners and senior officials, were present.
The strategic framework discussed during the meeting encompasses a range of preventive measures. These encompass targeted anti-larval treatments, meticulous insecticide fogging, and organized cleanliness drives. An integral component of the strategy involves swift removal of stagnant water from sources like window coolers, underscoring the proactive approach in curbing dengue breeding grounds.
To achieve a broad and sustained impact, the Mayor advocated the involvement of Self-Help Groups (SHGs) in conducting door-to-door awareness campaigns. This approach aims to swiftly eliminate areas where water accumulates, including locations such as money plants, discarded tires, and utensils.
As part of the broader mosquito control initiatives, a series of high-quality anti-larval treatments and fogging campaigns will be meticulously orchestrated across all zones. The onus of executing these measures falls on zone commissioners, zone health officials, assistant zone health officials, and sanitation inspectors. Directives also encompass rigorous insecticide application within the 70 wards, as well as organizing health check-up camps in collaboration with the State Health Department and CMHO/Civil Surgeon.
A notable highlight of the meeting was a dedicated workshop addressing the imperative need to prevent hazardous sewer and septic tank cleaning. Experts stressed the pivotal role of mechanized cleaning protocols utilizing specialized equipment to eliminate risks linked with manual intervention.
The Commissioner issued clear instructions to all zone commissioners and health officials to initiate a targeted cleanliness campaign. The core objective of this drive is to thwart the potential spread of mosquito-borne dengue and enhance awareness through systematic sanitation initiatives. The campaign will focus on colonies under the jurisdiction of Raipur Development Authority (RDA), Housing Board, Kamal Vihar, city outskirts, and settlements.
The overarching aim of this concerted effort is to bolster public health security through vigilant engagement, heightened awareness, and an effective augmentation of sanitation infrastructure.
