Recently, Bollywood Actress and Rajya Sabha MP Jaya Bachchan has caused controversy with her unparliamentary behavior in the Budget Session of the Parliament. During a proceeding on February 9th, she was seen pointing her finger at the Rajya Sabha Speaker Jagdeep Dhankar amidst the uproar over the Adani-Hindenburg issue. The clip of her finger-pointing gesture has since gone viral on social media, with many BJP leaders sharing and condemning the incident.
In the clip, Bachchan can be seen standing up from her seat, walking towards the Well of the House and pointing her finger at the Speaker who was trying to maintain order and asking the members of the Rajya Sabha to remain seated. Despite the Speaker’s attempts to bring the proceedings to order, the situation only escalated further, with Congress Rajya Sabha MP Rajani Patil being suspended for the rest of the ongoing Budget Session for violating the directions of the Chairman.
Jaya Bachchan spoke in support of the Congress MP, stating that Patil was not given a chance to clarify her stance on the issue. She went on to express her disappointment with the handling of the situation, saying, “I think it was done in a very humiliating manner. Shouldn’t have happened. If they feel something wrong was done, they should’ve sent it to Committee. Don’t know if they sent it. She wasn’t given a chance to clarify.”
Her finger-pointing incident has caused quite a stir on social media, with several users comparing her reaction with her general demeanor towards photojournalists. BJP’s Ajay Sehrawat has called her behavior in the Rajya Sabha “condemnable,” fueling further controversy.
