In a surprising turn of events, the “Still Rollin India Tour” by Canada-based Punjabi singer and rapper Shubhneet Singh, widely known as ‘Shubh,’ has been abruptly canceled. The decision comes amidst mounting allegations of his alleged support for the Khalistan movement. BookMyShow, the ticketing platform that had been promoting the tour, took to social media to announce the tour’s cancellation and assure ticket holders of refunds within 7-10 days.
In a statement, BookMyShow expressed, “Singer Shubhneet Singh’s highly anticipated Still Rollin Tour for India stands canceled. As a result, BookMyShow is committed to initiating a swift and complete refund process for all ticket holders. Refunds will be processed and reflected in customers’ source accounts within 7-10 working days from the date of the original transaction.”
The cancellation of Shubh’s tour follows a significant backlash on social media platforms, where users accused the singer of having sympathies with the Khalistan movement. The hashtag #UninstallBookMyShow trended on X as part of the boycott call against the ticket-booking app for hosting an artist facing such allegations.
This development occurs against the backdrop of an ongoing diplomatic dispute between India and Canada. The tension between the two nations escalated to the point of expelling senior diplomats. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau made allegations implicating New Delhi in the death of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar, 45, in British Columbia earlier this year. India promptly rejected Canada’s claims as baseless and absurd.
The strained relations have had repercussions, including the halt of trade talks that were already in progress. Shubh, an emerging Punjabi rapper, gained prominence largely due to the popularity of his song ‘Still Rollin’ on platforms like Instagram reels. His 2021 breakout single ‘We Rollin’ amassed over 201 million views on YouTube by 2023.
Shubh recently released his debut album ‘Still Rollin’ and excitedly announced his inaugural India tour, spanning across 10 different cities and even featuring a cruise event.
It’s worth noting that BookMyShow was a major sponsor of the now-canceled Indian tour, emphasizing the significance of the cancellation in the wake of the Khalistan controversy.
