In the wake of Diwali, a wave of thefts has gripped Raipur, with successive incidents of burglaries creating unrest among residents. The latest incident unfolded at the home of a property dealer in the vicinity of Mana police station, where thieves forcefully entered the premises, making away with cash and jewelry valued at Rs 21 lakh.
The incident came to light after Surendra Sahu, a resident of Siddhi Vinayak Colony and a property dealer, reported the theft by filing an FIR on November 18. Sahu recounted that around 6 PM, he had left for a leisurely walk in a nearby garden with his daughter and wife, returning home after an hour and a half. Upon arriving, he discovered the broken window rod leading to their bedroom. Inside, the scene was chaotic with belongings strewn across the room and the cupboard locks forcibly opened.
The perpetrators made off with Rs 7 lakh in cash kept inside a red bag within the cupboard, alongside gold and silver jewelry worth lakhs. The stolen items included four necklace sets, a bracelet, mangalsutra, rings, and bangles, the collective value of which totaled around Rs 21 lakh. Following the incident, the police have initiated an investigation into the matter.
