The sale of adulterated Ayurvedic medicines, Vatahari Vati and Chanda Vati, has become a major concern in the market. In an effort to curb this practice, the Drug Administration Department has written a letter to all the districts and ordered the confiscation of these medicines. The Food and Drug Administration Department conducted raids in Raipur and Balodabazar from February 2 to 4 and seized adulterated Ayurvedic medicines worth over 8.51 crores.
During the raids, significant amounts of adulterated medicines were found in several locations including Sharda Medical Store Simga (5 crores), Balodabazar (5 crores), Bajrang Ayurvedic Agency (2.95 crores), Yashika Trading and Marketing Company Shankar Nagar (92 thousand), and Yashika Trading Warehouse Birgaon (28 lakhs). A total of 8.23 crores of adulterated Ayurvedic medicines were confiscated.
The investigation has revealed that Mahadev Transport of Gondwara was selling adulterated Vatahari Vati worth 28 lakhs, which was believed to have been manufactured by Chanda Ayush Company of Indore. The raid at Bajrang Ayurvedic Agency in Gitanjali Nagar also resulted in the seizure of a medicine-making machine, raising suspicions that the agency may be manufacturing the drug on site.
Further investigation by the drug administration revealed that half of the medicine boxes did not have the name of the company or any information related to the medicine, leading officials to suspect that the agency is involved in the manufacture of the drug. The names of more companies involved in this practice may come to light in the future.
The Food and Drug Administration officials have announced that the investigation into the sale of adulterated drugs will be intensified. Information has been sought from drug agencies and medical stores about other suspected adulterated medicines. The officials are preparing a list of suspicious companies and their medicines, which will be investigated.
The officials have also warned that action will be taken against medical stores that continue to sell adulterated medicines, despite being told to stop. The license of these stores will also be cancelled if they are caught. It is believed that the sale of these adulterated medicines is driven by greed for profits.
