The Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) court in Odisha has ordered a five-day remand for the prime accused in the murder case of Health Minister Naba Das, former ASI Gopal Krishna Das. The court has also granted permission for the Crime Branch to conduct narco analysis and polygraph tests on Das as part of the investigation. The remand will end on February 13th.

Health Minister Naba Das had been serving in the Odisha government since 2019 and was a well-known and influential leader in the Jharsuguda constituency. He was shot in Brajarajnagar and succumbed to his injuries in a Bhubaneswar hospital last month. The investigation found that a single bullet entered and exited his body, causing massive internal bleeding and injury to the heart and left lung.
The murder of the minister has sparked public outcry, with the Leader of Opposition (LoP) and senior BJP leader Jayanarayan Mishra giving up his personal security officer due to a loss of trust in the Odisha police. Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has also expressed concern, alleging lawlessness in the state and a lack of clarity in the ongoing investigation.
