Bilaspur Police has initiated the Nijaat campaign aimed at sensitizing the youth against addiction to drugs and narcotics. This campaign involves strict actions against illegal drugs, extensive public awareness programs and helps drug addicts to get rid of addiction.
In order to make this campaign successful, Bilaspur Police has garnered the support of numerous TV, Bollywood, and Chhattisgarh celebrities. These celebrities, including actors like Prabhu Deva, Arbaaz Khan, Rajpal Yadav, and singers like Kavita Krishnamurthy, Kailash Kher, and Virendra Saxena, have released video clips appealing to the youth to stay away from drugs.
Apart from celebrities, Chhattisgarh’s Padma Shri recipient Anuj Sharma, Padma Vibhushan recipient Teejan Bai, and numerous other famous personalities have also joined hands to make this campaign successful. So far, 505 programs have been organized in schools, colleges, and public places under the public awareness campaign against drugs since February.
In rural areas, the Nijat Rath with anti-drug jingles has become an important part of the campaign against drugs. The police have arrested a total of 1,303 people under the Excise and NDPS Act in the last two months, out of which 228 accused were sent to jail in non-bailable cases.
Furthermore, de-addiction cells are being set up in ten police stations across the district for monitoring drug addicts. The Nijaat campaign is a positive step towards creating awareness against drug addiction and encouraging a drug-free society.
