Rajasthan Police have made significant headway in the investigation into the tragic assassination of Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi, the prominent figure leading the Rashtriya Rajput Karni Sena. Gogamedi was fatally shot multiple times at close range in Jaipur while engaging in a casual tea-time conversation at his residence.
Authorities have mobilized multiple investigative teams and announced a ₹5 lakh reward for any information leading to the arrest of the assailants. This distressing incident has spurred widespread tensions, prompting supporters to stage a statewide bandh in protest against the tragic loss.
In response to this appalling event, the Director General of Police, Umesh Mishra, has formed a dedicated Special Investigation Team (SIT) to spearhead the probe. The incident has incited outrage, with protests emerging not only in Jaipur but also in various districts across the state, demanding swift justice and apprehension of the perpetrators.
Gogamedi, a figure with a history of encounters with the Gogameri police station in Rajasthan, had been entangled in approximately 30 cases, several of which resulted in acquittal. Rohit Godara, associated with notorious gangs led by Goldie Brar and Lawrence Bishnoi, claimed responsibility for the murder via a Facebook post. Prior to the incident, Gogamedi had lodged a complaint against Godara after facing threats, as revealed by police sources from NDTV. Brar, a fugitive based in Canada, is wanted by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and various states in connection with multiple criminal cases, including the murder of Punjabi singer Siddhu Moosewala.
During the attack, Gogamedi and two associates sustained bullet injuries. Gogamedi, unfortunately, succumbed to his injuries at the hospital, while one of the assailants was neutralized by Gogamedi’s companions during a retaliatory gunfight, as confirmed by the police.
