In a commendable display of vigilance and coordination, the authorities in Raigarh District have thwarted an attempt to smuggle a significant quantity of liquor into the district. Collector Raigarh, Mr. Karthikeya Goyal, and Senior Superintendent of Police, Mr. Sadanand Kumar, have guided the Special Surveillance Team (SST) to keep a watchful eye on potential entry points, making it challenging for smugglers to bring contraband from other provinces into the district.
Acting on the Senior Superintendent of Police’s instructions, Inspector Prashant Rao Aher of Chakradharnagar police station employed an informant in a neighboring village along the Odisha border. The police station staff was instructed to monitor internal routes into the district closely.
In a recent incident on the afternoon of October 15, 2023, the police station received a tip from the informant regarding an individual transporting a substantial quantity of English liquor to Raigarh on a Honda Sign motorcycle. The station immediately alerted the Ektal Barrier Staff (SST team) in the vicinity and directed patrolling by the local police station to monitor the internal roads.
During the operation, the Chakradharnagar staff apprehended a suspicious individual attempting to smuggle liquor on a motorcycle at the Ektal barrier. The accused, identified as Rahul Jaiswal, was found without valid documents for the liquor’s transportation. An on-the-spot inspection resulted in the seizure of 48 beer bottles, 8 liquor bottles, and 21 pouches of English liquor, intended for sale in Odisha, with an estimated value of approximately Rs 25,000/-. Additionally, the Honda Sign vehicle with registration number CG 13 AM 6196 was seized. Rahul Jaiswal, aged 38 and son of Om Prakash Jaiswal, was identified as a resident of Doharighat Bhagwanpura police station, Dohri Ghat district, Yadu (UP).
Police station in-charge, Inspector Prashant Rao Aher, along with head constable Ravi Kishore Sai, constables Sushil Minj, Chandra Kumar Banjare, and Abhay Narayan, played pivotal roles in the operation.
This successful operation is a testament to the dedication of Raigarh authorities and local police in curbing illicit activities in the region.
