Raipur, 19 October 2023 – In anticipation of the upcoming Chhattisgarh assembly elections, an intensive checking campaign is currently underway at transport check posts in the region, aimed at preventing the potential misuse of goods and finances being transported via vehicles. This endeavor to maintain the integrity of the electoral process took an interesting turn on the night of October 19, 2023.
During a routine investigation at the Khamharpali check post in Mahasamund district, a private vehicle bearing the registration number OD-15-F-7092 was flagged down. Upon further inspection, it was discovered that the vehicle was carrying six bundles of Rs 500 notes, totaling a substantial sum of Rs 3 lakh. The driver, Syed Shoaib Ali, a resident of Mayabagicha, Sambalpur, and his associate Mohd. Irfan, hailing from School Chowk, Pensionbada, Sambalpur, failed to provide a satisfactory explanation for the presence of this substantial cash.
Simultaneously, at Chhuipali, under the Khamharpali check post, the inspection team uncovered an aluminum vessel weighing 99.6 kg in a vehicle registered as CG 06 GG 1308, owned by Shri Jyoti Prakash Aggarwal, a resident of Basna. The absence of valid documents supporting the possession of this aluminum vessel raised concerns.
Recognizing the potential misuse of the funds and goods in the context of the upcoming assembly elections, both cases have been promptly handed over to the Basna Police Station in the Mahasamund district (Chhattisgarh) for further investigation and necessary action.
It is important to note that, in strict accordance with directives from the Election Commission, the Transport Department remains committed to the continual scrutiny of vehicles and the enforcement of necessary actions to safeguard the electoral process.
