Supreme Court Lawyer Files Complaint Against Udhayanidhi Stalin Over Controversial Statement on ‘Sanatan Dharma’

A legal firestorm is brewing as a prominent Supreme Court lawyer takes bold steps to address controversial comments made by Udhayanidhi Stalin, Tamil Nadu’s Sports Minister and the son of the Chief Minister. The lawyer, identified as Vineet Jindal, has officially lodged a complaint with the Delhi Police. The crux of the matter lies in Udhayanidhi Stalin’s contentious statement concerning ‘Sanatan Dharma’ during a recent public speech.

    The Complaint and Allegations:

Vineet Jindal, an active lawyer and an ardent follower of Sanatan Dharma, contends that Udhayanidhi Stalin, also known as Udhayanidhi Maran, unleashed a barrage of provocative, inflammatory, derogatory, and incendiary remarks against this revered Hindu religious tradition. According to Jindal, these remarks not only wounded his religious sentiments but also struck a discordant note within the broader community.

Udhayanidhi Stalin is purported to have boldly advocated for the eradication of Sanatan Dharma, drawing controversial parallels to mosquitoes, dengue, corona, and malaria. These allegations have stirred considerable outrage and debate.

The complaint further levels several allegations against Udhayanidhi Maran:

    1. Hostility Toward Sanatan Dharma: Jindal argues that Udhayanidhi Maran’s statements reflect a deep-seated animosity toward Sanatan Dharma, one of the world’s oldest and most venerated spiritual traditions.
    2. Violation of Constitutional Obligations: Holding the esteemed position of an MLA and serving as a Minister in the Karnataka Government comes with a solemn duty to uphold the principles enshrined in the Indian Constitution, including respect for all religions. However, Jindal maintains that Udhayanidhi Stalin’s deliberate and offensive remarks about Sanatan Dharma were designed to stoke sectarian tensions.

Specific remarks by Udhayanidhi Stalin, highlighted in the complaint, include:

    • The call for the “eradication of Santana dharma.”
    • Comparisons between Sanatan Dharma and various diseases, such as mosquitoes, dengue, corona, and malaria.
    • The assertion that “these things which we cannot oppose, we have to eradicate them. Sanatanam is also like this. Eradication and not opposing Sanatanam has to be our first task.”

    Legal Action Requested:

Vineet Jindal maintains that Udhayanidhi Stalin’s statements amount to serious offenses under sections 153A and B, 295A, 298, and 505 of the Indian Penal Code. These sections primarily deal with the promotion of enmity between different groups on religious grounds and making statements with a deliberate intent to hurt religious sentiments. As a result, Jindal has formally requested the registration of an FIR (First Information Report) against Udhayanidhi Stalin, invoking these sections.

    Context of Udhayanidhi Stalin’s Statement:

Udhayanidhi Stalin delivered these remarks during an event where he called for a ‘Sanatana Abolition Conference.’ His statements, which advocate the eradication of certain elements rather than mere opposition, have ignited a broader debate on religious tolerance, equality, and social justice.
