Chief Minister Shri Bhupesh Baghel marked a significant milestone as he inaugurated the Bijapur Government Factory located in Itpal. During this event, he also took the opportunity to inspect the ongoing textile manufacturing processes within the garment factory and engaged in discussions with the women employed there. As a symbolic gesture, Shri Baghel flagged off the first batch of products ready to hit the market from this factory.
Bijapur district is primarily dependent on agriculture and forest-based livelihoods, making the establishment of this factory a crucial move to address the issue of rural migration for employment. The district administration of Bijapur conceived this garment factory as a business model to ensure stable livelihoods and empower women. This initiative exemplifies the district’s commitment to providing employment opportunities to a maximum number of beneficiaries with minimal costs and in a short timeframe.
To set up this garment factory, discussions were held with prominent garment brands in the country, including Myntra, Max, and Dixie. Representatives from Dixie and Myntra visited the district and expressed their intent to establish a factory. Consequently, the garment factory became a reality at a cost of Rs 6 crore 90 lakh 27 thousand.
The endeavor also included counseling for 800 women to work in the garment factory and provided training to 200 beneficiaries. In June 2023, a significant step was taken to initiate vest production in the District Project Livelihood College by signing a 5-year contract with Dixie Company, providing employment to 70 women. This initiative not only promises economic stability for the region but also promotes women’s empowerment through gainful employment opportunities.
