Raipur, Chhattisgarh – The dates for the Chhattisgarh Assembly elections have been officially announced. The state will witness voting in two phases, with the first phase scheduled for November 7 and the second phase on November 17. The results for the 90 assembly seats in Chhattisgarh will be declared after the counting of votes on December 3.
The ruling Congress party and the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have both entered election mode and are vying for the mandate to govern the state for the next five years. Congress is conducting a campaign emphasizing the trust in its government, while the BJP has organized Parivartan Yatras (journeys for change) to build momentum.
The BJP has started organizing public meetings with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and has also released a list of party candidates. Meanwhile, the ruling Congress appears to be lagging slightly behind in announcing its candidates. The Congress is discussing the possibility of contesting the elections under collective leadership rather than relying solely on Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel’s leadership.
In the first phase of the elections, voting will take place in 20 Naxal-affected constituencies on November 7. The election schedule is as follows:
- Last day for filing nominations:
- First phase: October 20
- Second phase: October 30
- Last day for withdrawal of nominations:
- First phase: October 23
- Second phase: November 2
- Polling dates:
- First phase: November 7
- Second phase: November 17
- Date for counting of votes: December 3
Both political parties are expected to intensify their election campaigns in the coming weeks as they vie for the support of the electorate in Chhattisgarh.
