After intensive deliberations within the Congress party, the second list of candidates for the upcoming Chhattisgarh Assembly elections has been unveiled. In a surprising turn of events, several sitting MLAs have had their tickets canceled in this second list, including the notable MLA, Brihaspati Singh. Deputy Chief Minister TS Singhdev has shed light on his reaction to this development, revealing that discussions are ongoing regarding the remaining seven names, which have been escalated to a high-level committee for consideration. Singhdev emphasized that these names will also be made public shortly.
Singhdev defended the decision to cancel the tickets of ten MLAs, stating that it was based on extensive survey data, which had a significant impact on the allocation of tickets.
In response to allegations from the BJP concerning the denial of tickets to MLAs, Singhdev maintained that everyone presents their arguments, but the key criterion is the candidate’s electability. He stressed that the Congress party has a strong track record of good work, and if the party does not emerge victorious, the work will be in vain.
Singhdev clarified that the cancellation of tickets for Chhani Sahu and Brihaspati Singh was rooted in the survey results. He refuted claims that Brihaspat Singh’s ticket was canceled due to personal influence and reiterated that the decision was data-driven.
Regarding the recent visits of central leaders and statements by Amit Shah, the Deputy Chief Minister urged the Election Commission to take cognizance of the situation. He expressed concern over the administration being under the control of appointed officials rather than the elected government. Singhdev stressed the importance of considering the statements and taking appropriate actions.
The Congress party released its second list of candidates on Wednesday, featuring 53 names, with only seven candidates being newly revealed.
