The Chief Minister has urged the Social Welfare Department to present a comprehensive action plan for a drug-free public awareness campaign within one month. He emphasized the importance of active cooperation from NGOs, as well as social, cultural, and religious organizations in this campaign.
In the instructions issued to the Chief Secretary, the Chief Minister stated that drug addiction is a serious social evil that not only jeopardizes lives but also leads to severe diseases and premature deaths. Various intoxicants such as ganja, bhang, zarda gudakhu, tobacco, liquor, gutka, smoking, charas, opium, smack, cocaine, and brown sugar are consumed by individuals seeking intoxication. While the Chhattisgarh Police is taking continuous action against drug abuse and the state government is making efforts to combat it, the Chief Minister emphasized the need to involve the public and reach the masses to make this campaign successful. The rapid increase in drug addiction among the younger generation is a matter of grave concern.
To protect society from the adverse effects of drugs and prevent the young generation from wasting their lives, it is necessary to launch a large-scale public awareness campaign. The Chief Minister recommended organizing seminars to raise awareness among students in higher secondary schools, colleges, and universities. In addition to government efforts, active cooperation from NGOs and various social, cultural, and religious organizations should be sought.
